If you are enquiring about ASC or are a new member you might like to know how we are organised.

Let's start with most important part of the ASC - the individual Member. You will be a member of a local Speakers Club, which is where you will do most of your speaking in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. There are some 120 Clubs nationwide with about 1,800 members. Each Club elects a Club President, Secretary, Treasurer and Education Director (and maybe others) each year to run the Club's activities.

There is life beyond the Club! A number of local Clubs are grouped together as an Area. Areas will run various activities involving their Clubs and often include inter-club speaking competitions - for example, the West Midlands Area runs a team speaking competition called 'The Blarney Stone' eagerly fought for by the three Clubs involved; other Areas run similar competitions. Each Area has an Area President to co-ordinate the activities.

Map showing the ASC DistrictsThe next link in the chain is the District. There are eight Districts nationwide. The elected District President is automatically a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC).

Clubs, Areas and District will run annual speaking competitions with the winners at each level going on to the National Speaking Competition which is held once a year at the ASC Annual Conference.

The ASC is run nationally by the National Executive Committee, assisted by a number of National Officers. The General Council meets annually: it is chaired by the National President and consists of the NEC, Area Presidents, and each Club's voting delegate - over 150 people.
