News from Swindon SC

A Double Whammie!
A DOUBLE WHAMMIE! Louise Hill (l.) and Donna Reader (r.) receiving their Manual 10 Masterpiece certificates from President Sheila Parsons.

Swindon Speakers Club, established in 1982, is a thriving and lively club, currently with 20 members, a 50:50 gender balance, an age range from twenty-somethings to the more mature and a fascinating mixture of nationalities. We are attracting more youngsters, often thanks to Donna Reader a hospital, college and local radio presenter. (This is the girl who got us to do our own Oscars night!).

Recently we provided a forum for a Best Man to try out his wedding speech and have successfully embarked on Prescription Speaking to satisfy specific goals of our more experienced speakers.

Debates with other clubs, ASC competitions, a popular prose & poetry evening, see yourself perform on video, practise a radio interview, social evenings and an elegant charter dinner are features of our year as well as the regular manual speeches and topics.

The theme this year, initiated by our President, is to attract more teenagers, which means going into schools and colleges to encourage them in public speaking. Luckily we have lots of contacts into education among our members, so watch this space.
